The men’s and women’s swimming teams hosted Bowdoin and Colby in their penultimate regular-season meet, with both teams cruising to wins over their Maine adversaries. The Cardinal women earned a pair of solid victories, 168-131 over Bowdoin and 171-128 against Colby, and the Cardinal men flattened both squads, defeating Bowdoin 180-117 and crushing Colby 221.5-65.5.

Cara Colker-Eybel ’13 continued her string of strong performances on Saturday, accounting for three of Wesleyan’s nine victories (out of 16 events) on the afternoon. Colker-Eybel won the 200 free with a time of 1:56.00 and clocked in at :53.62 in the 100, just 0.54 seconds shy of the school record. She also took the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:41.73 and helped lead the Cardinals to a victory in the 400 medley relay in the first event of the afternoon.

Cara Madden ’11 added another two wins to the Cardinals’ cause, taking first in the 50 free (:25.10) and 100 back (1:01.37). Madden also joined Colker-Eybel on the winning 400 medley relay team. Rachel Cohen ’12 clocked in at 2:12.89 in the 200 fly to give Wesleyan first place in the event, nearly two seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Naima Ford ’11 added first-place points in both the one- and three-meter dives to round out Wesleyan’s winning performances.

The Cardinal men had an equally strong performance on the boards, giving Wesleyan a sweep of the afternoon’s diving events. Gianfranco Galluzzo ’12 took first in the one- and three-meter dives, with J.P. Valette ’10 taking third in the one-meter and second in the three-meter.

Wesleyan got a pair of first-place performances from Brendan Fortin ’13, who took first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.35—nearly six seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Colby—and edged teammate Jeff Arace ’12 by 1.75 seconds in the 500 free. Fortin also took second in the 400 IM, finishing behind teammate Michael Bailey ’11, who clocked in at 4:18.45.

Wesleyan also received first-place finishes from Momo Saleh ’12, Kuan-lin Huang ’12, and Dan Storms ’10. Saleh took first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:10.95, while Huang had the top time of 2:15.07 in the 200 breast, finishing nearly five seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Storms, who was named NESCAC Performer of the Week on Monday, took the 200 free with a time of 1:46.13, finishing 1.43 seconds ahead of Arace, and also had season-best times of :22.40 in the 50 free and :48.49 in the 100 free. In addition, the Cardinals’ 400 free relay team of Arace, Ryan Beck ’10, Alex Brody ’12, and Storms took first with a time of 3:15.42.

With the win, the Wesleyan men won their eighth straight against Bowdoin, including a 149-146 victory in Brunswick last season. Bowdoin holds a 37-36 edge in the all-time series, but Wesleyan has won 17 of the last 19 meetings between the two squads. The Cardinals also improved to 12-2 all-time against Colby. The Wes women avenged a 158-139 defeat to Colby from last season and have won two straight and 10 of 13 against Bowdoin.

Next up for the Cardinals is the annual season-ending meet against Coast Guard, which will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m.
