Assistant men’s lacrosse coach Rick McCarthy was inducted into the Connecticut Lacrosse Hall of Fame during a ceremony held on Sunday, Jan. 10 at Yale. McCarthy, who recently completed his fifth season as an assistant with Wesleyan, was one of seven individuals inducted.

McCarthy joined the Wesleyan staff as an assistant in 2003 before leaving to establish the varsity lacrosse program at Western Connecticut. After two seasons in Danbury, including an 11-5 campaign in 2005, McCarthy returned to Wesleyan in 2006. He was named Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) Division III Assistant Coach of the Year in December 2006. He also served as co-coach of the North team at the 2002 STX/USILA North-South Division III Senior All-Star Game. He served as president of the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) in 2002-03 and has also been a member of the USILA All-America advisory board.

McCarthy, a 1968 Yale graduate, began his coaching career in 1975 at Babson College. He compiled a 34-13 mark in four years at Babson, including an NCAA tournament appearance in 1979.

He also served as head coach at Eastern Connecticut from the varsity program’s inception in 1996 through 2002, during which he went 91-19 and was named conference coach of the year three times.
