The women’s squash team won four of its six matches in the Wesleyan Round Robin over the weekend, including a pair of 9-0 victories over Smith College and Mount Holyoke College. The team now stands at 6-3 as it begins a month-long winter layoff.

Wesleyan opened the tournament with an 8-1 victory over St. Lawrence Friday night. Eight of nine Cardinals won their matches by scores of 3-0 or 3-1, including sweeps by No. 1 Casey Simchik ’10, No. 2 Grace Zimmerman ’13, No. 5 Danielle Craig ’13, No. 6 Jenny Chu ’11, and No. 9 Ashley Garrett ’12. The Cardinals went on to defeat William Smith in their first match Saturday, with Simchik (No. 1) and Gwynne Hunter ’10 (No. 4) sweeping their matches.

Following a 9-0 loss to Middlebury, the Cardinals opened Sunday with a pair of 9-0 victories over Smith and Wellesley. Wesleyan swept the 1-8 matches against Wellesley, while eight of nine players recorded 3-0 victories against Smith. The Cardinals concluded the Round Robin with an 8-1 loss to Mount Holyoke College. Chu recorded the only victory for Wesleyan on the afternoon, as she swept her match at No. 6.

Wesleyan’s next match comes against Wellesley on Jan. 16 in the Yale/Wesleyan Round Robin.
