The men’s squash team split its four matches in the Wesleyan Round Robin over the weekend, suffering losses to St. Lawrence University and Connecticut College while rolling to victories over Georgetown University and Colgate University. The Cardinals have concluded their first-semester action with a 5-3 record and will return to action in January.

Wesleyan opened the tournament with a Friday night match against St. Lawrence. While Robert Broadfoot ’10 rolled to a 3-1 win in the No. 1 match, the rest of the Cardinals did not fare as well as St. Lawrence took an 8-1 decision. Wesleyan suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Conn. College on Saturday, as the Camels took a pair of 3-2 decisions in the match.

The Cardinals ended on a high note, however, thanks to a pair of dominating performances on Sunday. The Cardinals earned a 7-2 victory over Georgetown to open their Sunday action. Broadfoot (No. 1) and Lucas Wherry ’13 (No. 6) swept their matches, while Lonnie Gibbs ’10 (No. 7) and Kyle Baicker-McKee ’10 (No. 8) took hard-fought 3-2 victories. Wesleyan followed that with a 7-2 victory over Colgate, in which Matt Candal ’11 (No. 2), Nate Fowles ’10 (No. 4), Brewster Lee ’13 (No. 5), and Wherry (No. 6) swept their matches.

The Cardinals’ first match of 2010 is Jan. 15 against Hobart, the first of the Yale/Wesleyan Round Robin.
