Fusion, a student-run dance troupe, performs mostly hip-hop but also incorporates elements of salsa, step, ballet, and jazz into its shows. The group also teaches dance to elementary school kids at the YMCA. I sat down with Fusion and learned that its members are inspired by bad movies, Lady Gaga, and techno. Look for a Fusion show sometime before finals.

Argus: What is your favorite dance movie?
Fusion: Save the Last Dance, Step Up 2, Dirty Dancing, and Stomp the Yard.

A: Favorite music to dance to?
F: Anything from reggaeton to crazy Korean techno. Girl Talk is the best because the mash-ups have everything.

A: “So You Think You Can Dance,” “America’s Best Dance Crew,” or “Dancing With the Stars”?
F: “So You Think You Can Dance.”

A: Favorite bad dancer?
F: Anyone on “So You Think You Can Dance.” Or MC Hammer. Or drunk kids at Psi U.

A: Favorite choreographer?
F: Missy Elliott, Wade Robson, Shane Sparks, and Nappytabs.

A: Shakira or Beyonce?
F: This is so hard! Beyonce because she was able to make an amazing video with three dancers, no props, and no background. Shakira has a crazy voice but Beyonce is fierce.

A: Britney or Lady Gaga?
F: Lady Gaga because she can shoot fire out of her boobs.

A: TLC or Destiny’s Child?
F: TLC! They were so classic.

A: What was the most ridiculous costume you’ve had to wear for a performance?
F: A mullet, a pineapple costume, a one-piece bellbottom outfit, paper mâché.

A: What’s the best dance show you’ve seen at Wesleyan?
F: Dance Master’s Weekend in March or last year’s Senior Thesis dance.

A: In a dance-off, which of you would win?
F: Kora.

A: Does Fusion have a signature move?
F: Well, there’s one move we always try to do where we just end up whacking whoever is to our left in the face.
