Tufts 15, at Bates 7

Tufts ground out its 24th straight victory over Bates, continuing a record that runs back to 1986. The Jumbos relied a time-consuming offense and stiff defense. The Tufts defense did not allow an offensive touchdown, as Bates’ only TD came on a 12-yard interception return in the second quarter. Tufts earned its first win of the season, while Bates fell to 0-2.

 

at Amherst 13, Bowdoin 12

Amherst rallied from a late 12-6 deficit on a five-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Alex Vetras to senior Brandon Bullock with 2:47 left in the game. Bowdoin made seven trips inside the red zone but came away with only 12 points on field goals of 29, 22, 23, and 19 yards. Bowdoin dominated the stat sheet, holding possession for 36:40 and outgaining the hosts 467-312, including 392-240 through the air.

 

at Trinity 26, Williams 21

Junior quarterback Craig Drusbosky connected with junior Michael Galligan for touchdown passes of 16 and 11 yards in the final 1:48 as Trinity rallied from a 21-13 fourth-quarter deficit. The Bantams, who are ranked first in New England, won their 12th straight overall and third straight against Williams. Trinity also remained unbeaten in 32 home games since Jessee/Miller Field was converted to artificial turf in 2001.

 

at Middlebury 45, Colby 0

Middlebury racked up 526 yards of total offense in winning its home opener and seventh straight on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium overall. The 45 points represented the Panthers’ highest scoring output in a win since a 55-31 victory over Hamilton in 2003. Middlebury scored on its final five possessions to turn a 14-0 game into a rout.
