The golf team traveled to Providence, R.I. on Saturday for the nine-team Rhode Island College Invitational. At the par-72 Trigg Golf Course, Wesleyan finished fifth of the nine teams in attendance with a 336 total. Johnson & Wales placed first with a 318 score.

Pete Taylor ’12 tied for second with a 77 total—just two strokes higher than the medalist—and John Torrenti ’09 placed 13th overall with an 82. Charlie Alderman ’11 shot an 86 for 22nd place, and Alex Levin ’12 tied for 28th with a 91. Dan DeRienzo ’11 finished just behind Levin, shooting a 95 to tie for 34th.

Wesleyan’s team total of 336 was just two strokes more than Division I Providence College (334) and five behind host R.I.C. (331); Wesleyan finished ahead of Worcester State (340), Babson (349), M.I.T. (367) and Newbury (424).

Next up for the team is the annual Little Three Championship, which will be held on Wednesday at Lyman Meadows Golf Club in Middlefield.
