The men’s tennis team fell to Trinity 9-0 on Wednesday, the Bantams’ eighth straight win in the series. The match had been scheduled for Apr. 8, but cold weather forced the one-week postponement. Wesleyan now stands at 10-7 on the year but 1-3 in NESCAC play.

The Cardinals found themselves in a 3-0 hole after doubles play was completed, as Wesleyan narrowly fell in all three matches. Graham Immerman ’09 and Michael Piderit ’12 fell 8-6 at No. 2, and Paul Gerdes ’09 and Matt Buckley ’12 met the same fate at No. 3. The No. 1 pair of Jaafar Rizvi ’09 and Matt O’Connell ’09 fell 8-5.

Wesleyan did not fare much better in singles play, as the Bantams took all six matches in straight sets. Gerdes (No. 3) and Rizvi (No. 4) both fell 6-1, 6-1, and No. 6 Alejandro Alvarado ’09 fell 6-1, 6-0. O’Connell (No. 1) had the closest matches, losing 6-4, 6-2; No. 5 Piderit dropped the first set 6-1 but nearly took the second, dropping a close 7-6 decision. At No. 2, Immerman trailed in his first set before retiring, giving the Bantams the victory in the teams’ first meeting since Sept. 2004.

Wesleyan is back in action on Saturday, hosting Hamilton in a morning match. Wesleyan is 6-0 all-time against the Continentals, including a 5-1 victory in Clinton last spring.
