The men’s and women’s track teams competed in the unscored Trinity Invitational over the weekend, their second outdoor meet of the spring. Wesleyan racked up six top-three finishes in the meet and 27 top-eight finishes overall.

Lisa Sussman ’09, Liz Wheatley ’09 and Ravenna Neville ’10 each had a first-place finish for the Cardinals: Sussman in the 800-meter run (2:15.56), Wheatley in the 5,000-meter run (18:32.56), and Nevile in the 10,000-meter run (37:26.24). Lilly Fesler ’11 placed 8th in the 800m (2:24.72), while Tess Crain ’12 (3rd, 19:19.32) and Anna Schindler ’09 (4th, 19:30.80) also placed in the 5000m. Julia Frieze ’12 and Jessica Levin ’11 each had a 6th-place finish, Frieze in the 200m (0:27.90) and Levin in the 1500m (5:04.91). The 4x100m relay team of Kiran Sheffrin ’10, Kathryn Kulowski ’11, Yulhee Cho ’11 and Frieze clocked in at 0:54.09 for a 5th-place finish. In addition, Kulowski’s triple jump of 33’ 1-3/4” earned her 5th place, while Kora Shin ’10 took 5th in the javelin with a throw of 106”.

Jonah Blumstein ’09 had the men’s only first-place finish, taking first in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:17.16. Teammates Charles Lang ’11 (2nd, 15:23.33), James Lawrence ’12 (4th, 15:43.02), and Justin Spring ’10 (7th, 15:54.66) finished right behind him. Chris Coleman ’10 finished 2nd in the 800m (1:57.22), with Brad Litchfield ’09 clocking in at 1:59.48 for 6th. Chris Foster ’09 took fifth in the 1500m with a time of 4:05.92, and Sam Kurtis ’10 took fourth in the 10,000m (33:41.67) with Brendan Sheehan ’11 (35:02.40) finishing eighth. Tommie Lark ’11 placed in both the 100-meter (sixth, 0:11.82) and 200-meter (fifth, 0:23.63) dashes, with Alex Iwamoto ’12 (seventh, 0:11.86) also placing in the 100m. Wesleyan’s throwers also had a strong afternoon. Mike Moody ’10 finished sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 143’ 4”, Newman Hoffman ’09 took fifth in the shot put (41’ 6”) and Derek Kuwahara ’09 took fifth in the discus (121’ 9”). Iwamoto was the only Wesleyan jumper to place on the afternoon; his triple jump of 38’ 11” earned him sixth place.

Both teams open their home action this weekend at the Elmer Swanson Invitational.
