The men’s and women’s track teams participated in the New England Division III Championships over the weekend, with the men traveling to M.I.T. for the second straight weekend while the women ventured to Bowdoin. Both teams finished 15th out of 24 scoring teams in the meets, with the men accumulating 12 points and the women 11.
Julia Frieze ’12 accounted for eight of Wesleyan’s 11 points in the women’s meet, adding four in the 400-meter dash and also helping Wesleyan earn three in the 4×200 and 4×400 relays. The 4×200-meter relay team of Frieze, Kathryn Kulowski ’11, Lisa Sussman ’12 and Kiran Sheffrin ’10 finished sixth with a time of 1:50.08, adding three more points to the Cardinals’ total. The 4×400-meter relay team of Sussman, Lilly Fesler ’11, Frieze and Sheffrin added one more point with an eighth-place time of 4:08.89. Sussman and Kulowski rounded out the scoring for Wesleyan, with Sussman placing seventh in the 800-meter run and Kulowski eighth in the high jump.
Tommie Lark ’11 had 10 of the men’s 12 points. Lark finished third in the long jump with a distance of 21” 10 1/4’ and added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (45” 1 3/4”). Wesleyan also had a pair of eighth-place finishes by Jonah Blumstein ’09 in the 5000-meter run (15:32.42) and Newman Hoffman ’09 in the shot put (43’ 8 1/2”).
The men placed seventh of the 10 NESCAC squads in attendance, ahead of Conn. College (10 points), Middlebury (7 points) and Colby (3 points). The Cardinal women finished eighth of the 10 NESCAC teams at the meet, ahead of Conn. College (4 points) and Trinity (3 points).
Both teams will travel to Boston University next weekend for the New England open championships, which will take place Friday and Saturday.
