The women’s swimming team traveled to Maine over the weekend for a tri-meet with Bowdoin and Colby and came away with a split, defeating the host Polar Bears 159-134 but falling to Colby 158-139. Wesleyan now sits at 9-5 on the year with one regular-season meet remaining.
Julia Fram ’12 earned first-place points for Wesleyan with a time of 2:14.88 in the 200-yard butterfly, nearly two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Carly Bollinger ’09 won the 200-yard breaststroke event, and the Wesleyan “A” team of Cara Madden ’11, Agnes Koczo ’09, Emily Kodis ’11, and Jeanine Zaltsman ’11 took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The Cardinals also dominated the 200-yard individual medley, as Amelia Lupinetti ’11, Bollinger, and Fram took first, second, and third, respectively, in the event. Wesleyan’s divers also had a strong showing, as Naima Ford ’11, Roynan Krebs ’11, and Lindsay Ballard ’11 finished second, third, and fourth, respectively, in the one-meter diving event. Krebs finished second and Ford third in the three-meter dive as well.
The 25-point victory over the Polar Bears was Wesleyan’s largest over Bowdoin since Feb. 6, 1999, when Wesleyan left Brunswick with a 157-81 triumph. Wesleyan also snapped a two-meet losing streak to the hosts with the victory.
Wesleyan concludes its regular season on Saturday, as the Cardinals will host Coast Guard following recognition of the men and women’s senior classes. Wesleyan then has a weeklong layoff before returning to Bowdoin for the three-day NESCAC Championships, which begin Friday, Feb. 20.
