The men’s swimming team swept a tri-meet against Bowdoin and Colby on Saturday, dominating Colby 199-88 and edging Bowdoin 149-146 on the strength of its performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Wesleyan improved to 16-2 in its last 18 meets against Bowdoin and 11-2 all-time against Colby with the wins.

The Cardinals entered the final scored event clinging to a 143-135 lead over the hosts. Bowdoin’s “A” team took first place by .32 seconds, cutting Wesleyan’s lead to one, 147-146. The Cardinals’ “B”, however, clocked in at 1:32.28, well ahead of Bowdoin (1:33.00), giving Wesleyan two points and clinching the 149-146 victory. Alex Brody’s ’12 :22.39 split over the final 50 yards was .59 seconds faster than his Polar Bear counterpart and helped secure the win for Wesleyan.

Kuan Huang ’12 had a pair of wins in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, and Michael Bailey ’11 took first in the 200-yard backstroke by 1.40 seconds. Chris Becker ’09 edged his Bowdoin counterpart by 0.02 seconds to take first place in the 100-yard freestyle, with Dan Storms ’10 taking third in the event. Storms blew away his competition in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:46.91, nearly three seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Wesleyan’s divers also continued their run of strong performances, as Dave Wilkinson ’09 and Gianfranco Galluzzo ’12 took first and third, respectively, in both the one- and three-meter diving events.

Wesleyan’s next action comes in the traditional regular season-ending home meet against Coast Guard on Saturday. The Cardinals will then have two weeks off before hosting the three-day NESCAC Championships beginning Feb. 27.
