The men’s and women’s indoor track teams participated in the Tufts Invitational on Saturday, with the men finishing sixth out of 11 teams and the women fourth of 10. Although there were no first-place finishes, Wesleyan did receive strong contributions from a number of runners, as has been the case all season. Distance runners Ravenna Neville ’10 and Liz Wheatley ’09 continued their dominance, finishing second and third, respectively, in the 3000-meter run. Kiran Sheffrin ’10 took second in the 55-meter hurdles following a third-place finish in the event during the previous week’s meet, and the Cardinals boasted a pair of point-getters in the 600-meter run in Julia Frieze ’12 (second) and Lisa Sussman ’09 (fourth). Wesleyan finished with 53 points on the afternoon.
The men’s best finish came in the 4×200-meter relay as the team of Tommie Lark ’11, Jadeene Gabay ’10, Alex Iwamoto ’12, and Kevin Walters ’12 clocked in at 1:38.72. The 4x400m relay team of Brad Litchfield ’09, Chris Coleman ’10, Scott Cole ’09, and Avinash Sridhar ’10 took third for the Cards. Wesleyan was also well represented in the 5000-meter run, as Jonah Blumstein ’09, Charles Lang ’11, and Justin Spring ’10 took third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Wesleyan’s team score of 52 was 0.5 points ahead of Connecticut College and put it well above a number of other NESCAC teams in attendance, including Tufts (19 points), Bates (3), Colby (2), and Williams (1).
The teams’ next action comes on Saturday in the Cardinal Invitational II, Wesleyan’s final home meet of the indoor season.
