There ought to be a privacy amendment

Good morning.

I am currently ineligible to vote, as I am a non-citizen. In compliance with Federal and State law, I have made this information available to the University on a number of forms. My question is this: would it not be possible to send an e-mail to those students currently eligible, and only to those students, given that their eligibility has been made known to you? I appreciate your enthusiasm for the American democratic process, but the aspect I most enjoy is that participation is voluntary—which, I would think, would allow me to pursue happiness unmolested by mandated involvement in the political process. As it so happens, I have been assigned a “House Captaincy” by WesVotes with neither my permission nor consultation, and have been subject to numerous unsolicited communications on their part—an unfortunately un-American turn of events. I find myself increasingly annoyed by this rigmarole, and yet I find no easy way to decline or opt out of the ceaseless badgering. In short, this is not so much a question as it is a request: please stop. You have fulfilled your obligations. You have gone above and beyond, Office of the University Registrar and WesVotes, and it has grown burdensome. Either give it a rest or focus your efforts where they are best spent: eligible citizens. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Dominic Ireland
