Many moons ago, President of the Wesleyan Student Assembly Matt Ball made a bold and heartfelt prediction regarding his local baseball team that I, at the time, considered both foolish and inaccurate:
“A half-year from now, I’ll refer to this Wespeak when the Rockies make the playoffs and say, ‘I told you so.’”
Six months later, having suffered the dual shock of the Mets’ historic collapse and the Rockies’ equally historic surge, I sit at my computer a humbled man. I tip my hat to you, Mr. President. You certainly told us so. History has shown myself and the Wesleyan community that you possess a penetrating foresight into the world of athletics. In turn, this necessarily spills over into your role as our Big Man On Campus.
