Wes, you’re not really anti-war

The vast majority of Wesleyan students say they are against the war in Iraq, but they’re really not. In fact, they support the war. And that includes you. Your silence is compliance and allows the war to continue. Who are you? You care more about the stupid fucking Anonymous Confession Board, the Facebook News Feed, writing drunk, profane Wespeaks, and hosting ice cream socials. As a college student, you, more than anybody else in this country, have the time and resources to be politically active. You live in an environment that can be easily turned into a formidable political power. 95 percent of the people you live, learn, eat, fuck, party, and shit with have similar opinions regarding the war; all we need to do is walk onto the street together and we’re a force to be reckoned with.

Channel your diligence and intelligence into something REAL, not “Attitudes Toward Ancient Roman Aqueducts in the Twelfth Century.” You stay up until four o’clock in the fucking morning trying to come up with a thesis for your English paper but you won’t spend two hours going to a protest. Is it that horrible to get an A-, or God forbid, a B?

You sit there, in your room, listening to Bob Dylan and Rage Against the Machine, believing you’re a progressive, but you’re really just sitting in your room. You think you’re just a good person who can’t do anything about the war—so you do nothing. But by doing nothing, you’re giving the hawks a get out of jail free card to continue the war. They know you are doing nothing and they love it. In fact, they get off on it.

Just the fact that you are in college means you have time to be political. You are an independent with no dependents. Stop examining your fucking privilege; use it. Come to the protest outside Representative Rosa DeLauro’s New Haven office on Nov. 10. Meet in Parking Lot C at 2:45, 2:00 o’clock if you can sacrifice enough of your precious time to make signs. Contact erosenberg@wesleyan.edu for more info or to RSVP.

FUCK YOU, and the war.

Peace.

P.S. If you are a real activist who is actually doing something then this Wespeak is obviously not directed at you. Additionally, we are not suggesting the War is the only issue; therefore, please refrain from being alienated by this article. Students For Ending the War in Iraq is always looking to make alliances with real activist groups.
