The Cardinals took Amherst to school on Saturday as the team rolled to a 6-0 win, its seventh victory in eight games.
From the outset Wesleyan dominated its Little Three rival, taking a 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the contest when Adrienne Shea ’08 scored off of a pass from Courtney Tetrault ’07. Shea would go on to record two goals on the day, both with an assist from Tetrault. Saturday’s was Shea’s second consecutive two-goal game, earning her NESCAC Player of the Week. Tetrault also had a banner day, tallying one goal and three assists.
The Cardinals, who after Saturday’s win have improved to 9-3 overall and 4-3 in NESCAC play, out shot the anemic Amherst offensive by a margin of 20-4. Goalkeeper Caitlin Kelly ’07 had to make only three saves en route to her second shutout of the 2005 campaign.
Also scoring for the Cardinals were Amanda Nickels ’08, Julia Perciasepe ’08, and Molly Adams ’07. Adams’ goal, which came off an assist from Liz Dee ’06, was her tenth of the season.
With Saturday’s win, Wesleyan maintained its unbeaten streak in away contests. The squad has emerged victorious from all five of its road games, and has cumulatively outscored its opponents 17-6 over the course of those five matches.
Next up for the Cardinals is a critical home game against NESCAC rival Tufts. Currently both teams stand at 4-3 in conference play, and the victor of Wednesday’s contest will likely secure a coveted home playoff spot for the opening round of the NESCAC tournament to be held on Sunday.
