Continuing their winning ways, the women’s volleyball team defeated Albertus Magnus College in three straight games this past Wednesday. In dominant play, Albertus Magnus was only able to score thirty-five points throughout the three games, thanks to the stifling Cardinal defense.
In game one, Albertus Magnus mustered a mere five points as the Cardinals came out on top 30-5. NESCAC “Player of the Week” Lisa Drennan ’09 and Caroline Rober ’08 led the Wesleyan attack recording eight kills apiece. Emily Dine ’09 set the ball up 24 times, helping the team record 44 kills in total.
In games two and three, Albertus Magnus fought hard, but the Cardinals offense was too overwhelming to take. On defense, Tory Molnar ’07 led the team with seven digs. The team also recorded 20 serving aces while only committing six errors.
From the victory Wesleyan extended its win streak to five and improved to a strong 11-5 record on the season. Wesleyan also increased its attack percentage to .214 on the season, after hitting at .367 for the Albertus Magnus game.
“It’s always really tough to play a team with a slower tempo, but we did a great job of coming in and playing at our own tempo,” Molnar said. “Regardless of whatever line up we used, we maintained our own level of play and focused on our side of the court.”
Next up for the Cardinals is the NESCAC weekend at Conn College, where the team will face off against Bates, Colby and Bowdoin.
