In what promises to be an exciting performance, Latasha Alcindor ’10 will present her dance thesis, “The Memoirs of Hip Hop,” in the ’92 Theater this weekend, at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. The show is an examination of the way hip-hop has influenced the central character throughout her life—as a woman, an African-American, and a human being. Other figures, mostly personified musical genres, act out smaller vignettes as Alcindor narrates.
The show, which Alcindor choreographed, documented, and directed, incorporates multiple disciplines and presentation modes. The preview on Wesleying.org encourages students to “Get ready to dance, laugh, cry, and think hard.” After all, “This is not about hip hop alone. This is about all of us.”
