Women’s Squash Splits Four Weekend Matches

The women’s squash team split four matches over the weekend in the Smith/Mount Holyoke/Amherst Round Robin, following a 1-2 West Coast trip and loss to Colby. Wesleyan now sits at 9-8 on the season.

Wesleyan fell to Stanford University 9-0 in its first match during its winter trip, but rebounded to defeat Connecticut College 8-1 the next day. Wesleyan won all eight matches at the 2-9 spots, with Gwynne Hunter ’10 (No. 4), Danielle Craig ’13 (No. 5), Jenny Chu ’11 (No. 6), and Anika Fischer ’10 (No. 8) sweeping their matches. Wesleyan fell to the University of Pennsylvania 9-0 to conclude its action in Palo Alto.

Wesleyan returned home and suffered a 6-3 loss to Colby in the Wesleyan/Yale Round Robin, with Tanesha Jackson ’13 (No. 3), Craig, and Chu all sweeping their matches. The Cardinals’ other scheduled match in the event, against Wellesley College, was canceled.

Over the weekend, Wesleyan fell in its first (Mount Holyoke College, 9-0) and last (Hamilton, 7-2) matches but won the other two, against St. Lawrence University and Columbia University, by 6-3 scores. Craig, Chu, Caroline Fox ’12 (No. 7), and Ashley Garrett ’12 (No. 8) were winners in both matches, with Jackson and Chu winning their matches against Hamilton.

The Cardinals will head to Williams for the Little Three championship this weekend, taking on Amherst at 11 a.m. Saturday before taking on the host Ephs at 1 p.m.
