Returning to the water after a successful fall campaign, the men’s and women’s crew teams kicked off the spring season in a three-way meet against Holy Cross and Coast Guard this past weekend. The teams met in the neutral waters of the Textile River in Lowell, MA for this early season competition.
In a tight race on the men’s side, the varsity eight boat placed third, but only nine seconds behind winner Holy Cross and four seconds behind Coast Guard. However, showing its depth, the second varsity eight boat placed second behind Holy Cross. In addition, the varsity four boat out-dueled Holy Cross to win by less than a second.
On the women’s side, the varsity eight also fell just short, placing third just eight seconds behind the winners. The second varsity eight defeated both Holy Cross and Coast Guard, and the two four person boats placed ahead of all other competition.
Coming off a successful fall season, the men’s crew team looks to defend its New England Championship later this spring. In addition, the women’s crew team is hoping to build on a strong fall campaign and improve upon last year’s fourth place finish at the New England Championships. The future looks bright for the Cardinals.
