The Wesleyan women’s tennis team increased their winning streak to three matches this weekend, earning a 7-2 victory over the Hamilton Continentals. The Cardinals and the Continentals faced off indoors at East Hartford Tennis Club; the match was originally scheduled as a home match for the Cards, but was moved due to the strong chance of rain.
Winning all three doubles matches provided the Cards with an early lead. Genevieve Aniello ’13 paired up with Grace Smith ’14 to take the number one doubles match, 8-4, while captain Linda McDougal ’11 and Nicki Softness ’14 won the number three doubles match by the same margin. Kiley Robbins ’14 and Sarah Miller ’12 took their doubles match to extra games and ultimately defeated their opponents 9-7. The Lady Cardinals would go on to win four of the remaining six singles matches. Aniello lost at the number one spot, while McDougal lost at the number five spot, each in two sets. The rest of the ladies would go on to win their matches in straight sets.
The women will try to continue their win streak this Wednesday, April 20 against Holy Cross.
