In the 2009 season, Morgan McCauley ’12 led the Wesleyan field hockey team to an above .500 record, and her play helped the team qualify for nesCaC tournament. Although an injury in the 2008-2009 season severely restricted her field time, McCauley remained eager to play.
“i was really excited going into the 2009 season,” she said. “i was looking forward to getting to play again. being sidelined freshman
year was really tough for me and i knew that my sophomore season was one that i had to prove myself in.”
starting in all games but one, McCauley led the Cards in goals and assists with nine and four respectively, finishing out the sea- son with a remarkable 22 points. With this record, mcCauley tied for 10th in nesCaC for cumulative points earned and was ninth in nesCaC for points per game. Three of mcCauley’s goals were game-winners, another team-leading statistic. due to her record- breaking stats and impressive accomplish-
ments, mcCauley was picked for second-team nFhCa new england West accolades and was also named second-team all-nesCaC.
reflecting back on the 2009 season, mcCauley fully credited her teammates.
“my teammates were awesome and did all the work to get the ball to where it needed to be, and i was just the last one to touch it,” she said.
as she begins the 2010-2011 season, mcCauley already has plans for an even more productive season.
“my main goal for this season is to always play as a team,” she said. “i really think that as long as we play to- gether and remain consistent we are capable of doing great things. i hope that we come out strong in our first few games so we can set the pace for the rest of the season. i would love to win nesCaCs.”
The Cards begin their pursuit of a nesCaC tournament victory this saturday with a home game against Williams College.
