What to Watch in Sports: 2010-2011: Laura Kurash ’13 & Women’s Soccer

In the 2009 season the Wesleyan Women’s soccer team raised the bar for women’s athletics by not only setting the school record for shut- outs, but also by scoring more goals per game than any of their rivals for the first time since 1994. Finishing with a solid 8-6-1 record, the lady Cards truly made a name for themselves in the NESCAC.

One of the University’s top players from last year’s squad was the 2009 NESCAC Rookie of the year and second-team all-NESCAC choice, Laura Kurash ’13. Although Kurash was only able to play in half of her games last season due to a serious injury, she managed to lead the team in scoring with six goals and three assists for a total of 15 points. Also among the team’s top scorers were Dasha Battelle ’11 (5-4-14), Kat Ellis-Ferrara ’13 (6-1-13) and Kaylin Berger ’13 (2-3
