The Cardinal cross country squads competed in the New England Open over the weekend, with the men finishing 27th of 47 teams and the women 17th of 49. Both races were held at Franklin Park in Boston.
Led by Ravenna Neville ’10 (30th) and Julia Mark ’13 (31st), who finished the five-kilometer course with identical times of 18:37, the Cardinal women finished fifth of the 21 Division III teams at the event. Wesleyan’s pack running was on full display as the Cardinals’ next two runners, Rosie Keogh ’13 (108) and Tess Crain ’12 (109) also came in with identical times of 19:33. Jessica Levin ’11 was Wesleyan’s final scorer, placing 122nd with a time of 19:44. Sarah White ’13 (19:50) and Ceili Brennan ’13 (21:16) finished 142nd and 242nd, respectively, out of a field of 327.
The Wesleyan men accumulated 620 points on the eight-kilometer course. Charles Lang ’11 had the best finish for Wesleyan, completing the course in 25:53 and finishing 68th overall out of 320 finishers. Next up was Marc Whittington ’13, who placed 86th with a time of 26:06. Bryan Marsh ’13 finished 124th with a time of 26:23, and Matt Katz ’11 was right behind him, clocking in at 26:37 for 151st. Justin Spring ’10 rounded out Wesleyan’s scoring five with a time of 26:59, finishing 191st. Skyler Cummins ’13 (205th, 27:07) and Jamie Lawrence ’12 (206th, 27:09) rounded out Wesleyan’s action on the afternoon.
Wesleyan’s next action comes in the annual Little Three meet, which will be held October 24th at Amherst.
