Doctors at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City have developed a new strategy for treating some forms of cancer. In this new treatment, a small amount of radioactive Cesium-131 is implanted near the site of the cancer. While previous treatments have used radioactive implants, the half-life of Cesium is much shorter than other substances, reducing the risk of complications

An Iowa State University graduate student has written a petition for the removal of religious symbols from the campus’ Memorial Union Chapel. According to the petition, the Chapel exhibits a preference for Christianity and Judaism, which is illegal under the First Amendment, as it constitutes an endorsement by a public institution. Approximately 110 people have signed the petition at this point.

A large portion of the George Washington University campus was shut down after police received a report of a suspicious package left near a campus building. While police response to the package did not greatly affect campus activities, 23rd Street was closed for two hours, and some public transportation was significantly delayed.

In Wisconsin, two university newspapers have come under fire after refusing to run a 12-page insert from a pro-life group. Editors at both newspapers said the decision not to run the insert was based on the fact it would not provide any specific service to their readership. A spokeswoman for the group denied this, saying that their organization provides information “on the sanctity of human life, healthy choices for people, health risks and scientific facts surrounding humanity of the preborn”.
