Stan Grayson ’09: Men’s Basketball
Despite losing big-time scorer Nick Pelletier ’08 to graduation last year the Cardinals are feeling good about their firepower this season. Most of that optimism is due to the return of Stan Grayson ’09, the second leading scorer last year and a co-captain this year. Grayson, despite logging only the fourth-most minutes, was second on the team in scoring with 11.7 points per game, shooting a team-best 54.8 percent from the field.
Grayson will bring his outstanding all-around game to a team with its third coach in as many years and a program that has lacked stability throughout that time. New head coach Joe Reilly, recently hired after a very successful run at Bates College, will look to change that with the help of seniors Grayson, Ezaakk Diggs, Jon Sargent, Kevin Scura, and Gabe Gonzalez-Kreisberg and junior co-captain Jeremy Kaminer.
Kaminer is the only returning player to log more minutes than Grayson last season; he averaged 6.3 points per contest and dished out 64 assists, the most on the team. Newcomers Jason Mendell ’12 and Matt Figueroa ’12 bring new energy to the program and will challenge the veterans for playing time.
With all this talent, the Cardinals hope to improve on their 8-16 record from last season. Their first chance will be a trip to Gordon College for its tip-off tournament this weekend, Friday Nov. 21 and Saturday Nov. 22. Wesleyan’s first opponent will be William Paterson.
