Shamefully, I did not attend President-elect Roth’s address to the Wesleyan community the other day, but by the grace of the Internet was able to catch the webfeed. And I kind of got a little misty.
I would like to thank the search committee, and especially our student representatives, for doing such a bang-up job. Thank you Brittany and Patrick for not only conveying our hopes, fears, and goals to the future President, but also for campaigning so doggedly for the input of each and every one of us from the very beginning.
As my last semester ends, I find myself becoming prematurely nostalgic, as I reflect with a great deal of satisfaction and fondness on my time here. I am also experiencing growing urges to make sweeping (and soggy) proclamations of love and joy in public, which may perhaps explain my first-ever Wespeak in four years. My point is, however, that I can say with utter sobriety that our incoming president fills me with hope for the future of Wes, which is a really wonderful feeling to have as I prepare to say goodbye to this place. Thank you, search committee.
