Senior houses: save energy, win $100s!

SENIORS:
Did you know that wood-frame houses constitute over 40 percent of Wesleyan’s energy use? As much as you may like wearing shorts in January, it’s time to take matters into our own hands and cut down on energy consumption. To this end, EON and the senior Community Advisors are asking seniors to DO IT IN THE DARK: turn off your lights when you aren’t using them, keep your windows tightly closed, and take shorter showers. Trust us, it’s as sexy as it sounds.

But in case that’s not enough of an incentive, we’ve turned it into a contest (and you’re all automatically entered). Whichever house reduces its energy use the most from last semester will receive $40 per person (that could be as much as $600 a house!) in gift certificates for a night out at any establishment in Middletown, on us!

Yes, we’re actually willing to give you a ton of money to do the right thing. Need a little more incentive? Every month starting in March, we’re going to also publish in the Argus the ten houses that are currently kicking ass in the competition. We’ll also publish the ten houses that are using the most energy, and need to step it up (if you find your house on the list, and think it shouldn’t be, you might want to contact Physical Plant to see if your house needs some work done on it). To kick things off, here are the ten houses that used the most energy last semester:

1) 56 Fountain Avenue

2) 51 Fountain Avenue

3) 58 Fountain Avenue

4) 60 Home Avenue

5) 273 Pine Street

6) 15 Fountain Avenue

7) 346 Washington Street

8) 9 Vine Street

9) 53 Home Avenue

10) 72 High Street

Come on, guys, you can do better than that. So from now until the end of classes, remember to DO IT IN THE DARK!
