News Brief

Thursday morning, Middletown honored the life of 28-year veteran Fire Captain Joseph S. Pagano, Jr. Pagano, 52, died of natural causes on Nov. 3 at the Cross St. fire station, next to the Freeman Athletic Center. Engine 1, carrying Pagano’s coffin, processed down Main St. to St. Pius Church near the South Green for a funeral mass. Marching in the procession were local and statewide firefighters and police, Mayor of Middletown Sebastian Giuliano, and city council members. The New Haven Fire Department’s Emerald Society accompanied the procession with bagpipes. Local residents lined either side of Main Street.

As reported in the Hartford Courant, Pagano’s fellow firefighters considered him a beloved, practical supervisor who always honored the best interests of his department. He is survived by wife Linda Guadino Pagano, daughters Justine and Marlise Pagano, and father Joseph S. Pagano, Sr.
