Captain’s Quarters

The men’s soccer team is set to take on Montclair State in the second round of the NCAA tournament thanks in part to their senior leadership. We checked in with tri-captains Peter Glidden ’07, Dave Baharestani ’07 and Jared Ashe ’07 about the Baruch win and what lies ahead in Montclair, NJ.

Argus Sports Staff: So how did it feel to get a home game and then dominate Baruch like you guys did?

Jared Ashe: It was great to erase the memories of the Bates loss for all the seniors. I don’t think there was a better way to go out on Jackson Field. Seeing Oswald [Ozzie Parente ’09] get the first goal of his Wes career, minus his celebration, was sweet.

Dave Baharestani: It was good to score a bunch of goals because we’ve been in a bit of a drought lately but definitely we have a lot left to come.

Peter Glidden: I don’t know – I’m kind of pissed. I like to pad my stats by scoring lots of goals in blowout wins. That’s why they call me A-Rod. But it’s cool because I made First Team All-NESCAC.

ASS: How confident are you going into Montclair State (19-1)?

DB: First off, it’ll be nice to get Jamie Hiteshew [’08] back to his hometown. He’s a celebrity there like he is here. I’m sure the ladies will be out for him, and that’s always nice to see.

JA: I don’t think the team is ready to let the season end yet, and we want to make it further than we did last year. We’ll be ready to go,

PG: Well as a First Team All-NESCAC member, I think it’s important that I play well for us to succeed. I plan to take five or six touches, minimum, every possession and then go home and paint a picture.

ASS: You have to hit the road for the game. How are those trips?

PG: I was upset that I never got good at setback so I felt excluded from the team but the fact that everyone let me sit by the bathroom by myself every trip was really nice.

DB: Personally, I wish Josh Stephens [’07] would take his mega headphones off and talk to us for once. I get lonely because coach doesn’t allow cell phones so I can’t text my special someone. And I’m angry, too, because I keep trying to get Bunny’s phone number but no one will give it to me.

JA: I wish coach would let us watch more R-rated material like True Romance. And Allie Levey [’09] needs to sing more – he has the voice of a flamingo. And screw Morgs [Morgan Owen ’07] because he never lets me use his iPod.

ASS: Whether or not you win on Saturday, how will you look back on your final season?

DB: I wish I didn’t get a concussion.

PG: I’m First Team All NESCAC.

JA: I wish Dave didn’t get a concussion.
