Dear Dean Cruz-Saco;
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank you for clarifying, in your letter of 13 October, the link between chalking and racism, homophobia, and anti-Semitism.
I for one was forcibly assaulted by the first stanza of Jabberwocky, inscribed in pink chalk, outside our very own Olin library. I was deeply offended by the blatant racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, and homophobia in this defamatory piece of vile, vile, prose.
I further believe that the diligent application of, it seems, the full force of our Public Safety officers, to monitoring and suppressing such chalking events over the past few weeks is a perfectly justifiable use of that resource, as such dangerous acts of free expression are clearly not safe and must be made so.
I would like to propose that Wesleyan University is not doing nearly enough to counter this rising menace, and as such advocate the formation of a committee, tentatively titled Wesleyan anti-Transcribing Front, to monitor chalking activities which may be taking place at elementary schools in our own backyard!
I would be more than happy to head such a committee.
Sincerely,
W. Gavin Robb
