The University’s official emergency response plan is in the process of being updated by a committee led by Clifford Ashton, director of Physical Plant. The original plan, established in 2001, is being revised to include information about dealing with serious pandemics and natural disasters similar to Hurricane Katrina. The committee will also adjust the plan to meet standards set by the National Incident Management System, a strategy created by the Department of Homeland Security as a model of emergency response.
Ashton is joined by Director of the University Health Center Joyce Walter, Director of Residential Life Fran Koerting, Associate Director of Environmental Health and Safety Bill Nelligan, and Medical Director of the Davison Health Center Dr. Davis Smith. The committee will have reviewed the emergency response plan in full by the end of this academic year.
