For those of you who do not know how the WSA is run, I will tell you this: 90 percent of the power rests in the hands of a select few called the “executive committee.” The members of this committee are not appointed by the student body, but rather through private internal elections.
I was one of the 30 people who attended the presidential debate last Sunday. I, like virtually every other member of the audience, am a WSA representative. I was ashamed by how some of my colleagues on the assembly behaved, continually assaulting Adit with personal criticism and doubt. It was like they were children refusing to share their toys. That is obviously their right, but it showed that this is a group that is unwilling to change the course.
As it stands, the WSA is a broken institution. This body exists to represent the students and if it had done its job, the Rise Up Campaign never would have happened! We need a leader who cares about the Wesleyan community because he is involved in the Wesleyan community. Adit Shah is that leader.
Wesleyan prides itself on being a progressive institution. As such we can not sit back and allow this status quo to continue. We must work for change, and I know for a fact that this is exactly what Adit will fight for. I am voting for REAL change. I am voting for Adit Shah.
