Max, I understand your position that Evan Carp’s Wespeaks should have been published, but I respectfully disagree. It’s true that Evan is by no means alone in his dehumanization of Muslims, but that’s the entire problem. Granting hate speech legitimacy by publishing it in the Argus (and elsewhere) re-inscribes hatred. It also forces minority communities to pretend that discussions over whether or not their identities are essentially evil are valid discussions.
Evan Carp writes in his latest Wespeak: “My point was and is to get people to take notice that all of these monsters are primarily Muslim.” If Evan is truly interested in “what makes these monsters tick” he should start with learning Arabic, taking Religious Studies classes on Islam, talking with Imams and studying abroad in a Muslim country.
