Film Series Confidential

Hey you!
Yeah you!
In the primary colors!
Guess what?
WE’RE DONE.
It’s over for us.
Where’d that bottle go?
I can’t see.
Who are all those little people?
Am I really drunk or…
Oh!
It’s that weekend.
The prefrosh have descended upon us!
Time for revelry!
Time for debauchery!

IF I HAD A PREFROSH
By Max Goldblatt.

If I had a prefrosh
I would take my prefrosh to a party.
And later, I’d hold back hir hair.
If I had a prefrosh
I would tell them who the good professors are
And about how cool the microform room is at Olin.
If I had a prefrosh
I would take my prefrosh to the Film Series.
And later, I’d engage hir in stimulating conversation.
Then I would bid them adieu and hope that they make the right decision.

Make the right decision this week:

In the CFA Cinema on Friday and Saturday, at 7:30 and 10pm, for $4.
“The Motorcycle Diaries”
Walter Salles’ (“Central Station”) film is the story of young Che Guevara’s epic motorcycle journey through Latin America with his best friend. This occurred years before he became the revolutionary whose image we’ve seen become completely banalized on T-shirts worn by pseudo-activists everywhere. Thanks Zach de la Rocha. Rage against my pants. It’s a gorgeously shot film, capturing beautiful mountain landscapes and starring the equally beautiful Gael Garcia Bernal, who threatens my masculinity in ways I am not comfortable going into here. However, Assistant Professor of Film Studies Lisa Dombrowski thinks he should shower more often. Some ladies like dirty guys, some don’t.

For free and simultaneously in the Science Center:

FRIDAY: “My Best Fiend” is one of my favorite documentaries, chronicling the tumultuous and brilliant relationship between director Werner Herzog and his manic leading man-ster, Klaus Kinski. These men are so fucked up and so brilliant and take acting and directing to new levels of sadism and masochism. Must be seen to be believed.

SATURDAY: “The Freshman” is a silent Harold Lloyd comedy. He’s not the Chaplin that you all know and love. He’s not the Keaton that many of you know and love. He’s Lloyd, the lesser known silent comedian. Underrated? Yes! Arguably the best? Arguably. He’s the guy hanging from the clock, dig? And PREFROSH should check this out to see what your first year will be like.

WEDNESDAY: “Unforgiven.” Seen “Million Dollar Baby?” Well it pales in comparison to Clint Eastwood’s previous best picture win; also starring Clint and Morgan Freeman, along with the baddest mother around, Gene Hackman. And it’s a Western written by the writer of “Blade Runner.” Movie’s dope!
