Administration needs greater transparency

Dear Justin Harmon,

I find your assertion that students, “felt reassured about the level of student participation” after reading the President Bennet’s report, and therefore didn’t attend the Jan. 25 follow-up forum, laughable. The main reason students didn’t attend at the level they did for the first forum is that there was no campus-wide e-mail sent out announcing the second forum (other than a tentative one a month earlier), no listing on the University website, nor any other attempt at publicity by the Administration. Certainly individuals and student groups, including the Wesleyan Student Assembly, did an admirable job of publicizing the forum on their own, but it should not be our responsibility to do all the promotion for an event we were not involved in planning. A good first step towards transparency would be advertising these forums.

Sincerely,
Brendan O’Connell
