The Wescard program has been an abject failure. I do not know a single person who has decided, contrary to all logic, to turn hard U.S. dollars into soft currency tenable only at certain Middletown establishments. Manny Cunard and whoever else developed this program should apologize, if only for wasting so much of our time with announcements about the GREAT NEW OPPORTUNITY available to Wesleyan students.
But a strange thing happened yesterday. Mr. Cunard (et al) announced that now all laundry facilities will use the Wescard rather than those trusty MacGray cards everyone has had since freshman year.
I wonder why. Is this perhaps, just maybe, a last-ditch attempt to revive the Wescard enterprise?
Not too long ago I spoke with a professor who has spent his entire career at Wesleyan. He said that the Bennet administration is the result of MBAs, instead of Ph.Ds, running an academic institution. But don’t worry, kids, “with just a swipe of your Wescard, you’ll be set to go!”
