Do not move to Canada yet

The Democrats lost this year. They lost the presidency, the House, and the Senate. We are all living in a highly conservative country in a time of war. So the question is, now what? Let’s sit in our rooms and bitch about the system, the Southerners, and above all, the fucking man.

Or let’s be realistic about the whole situation. If John Kerry had somehow pulled out the win, we would still be in a war. We would still be trying to figure out how to pay for this war and our healthcare and keep our older generations comfortable. We would still have to fight uphill battles for gay marriage and women’s rights. Granted, his win would have been a step in the right direction for liberal causes, but we must admit the most it could’ve been was a baby step. This loss should piss us off, but not cause us to give up. This is our country. We have to embrace it, and if you don’t like it, you have to change it, not move to Canada.

Pick a cause. Write a letter. Go to old people’s homes and read them books and eat a meal with them. Write letters and send packages to soldiers. Donate time or money. Start small or big, just start something. Force President Bush to hear you. The difference we, as pissed off citizens, can make is just as great as a victory by John Kerry. And if you think I’m being idealistic, smoke a joint and bitch. It is probably just as effective.
