he WSA is officially sponsoring a campus-wide poll on gender neutral housing and it is my strong conviction that apathy is not an option. In last Tuesday’s Argus, an editorial skillfully articulated the popular criticism that the WSA limits its influence on administrative decisions by only passing resolutions. As a freshman, I know little about the justification for this opinion but by giving this poll, the WSA is asserting its importance as a concerned and proactive presence on campus. The WSA strives to accurately represent the student body and is trying its best to do this by giving you, the students, the power to vote.
Even if gender neutral housing has no direct effect on you, I feel it is our obligation as members of this active and progressive community to exercise our rights to be heard. If you have absolutely no interest in this issue, show it by voting “abstain.” By not voting, you will effectively be supporting the Administration’s evasion of students’ voices in their decision-making. The WSA unanimously voted in favor of gender neutral housing and it is now the student body’s turn to publicize its feelings for all students, parents, alumni and administrators to see. Regardless of how you feel, dedicate only 30 seconds of your life to this community by going to wsavoting.wesleyan.edu and proving that apathy is not an option.
