New Business Caters to Sloppy, Hungry Crowd

by Lizzie Walsh, Contributing Writer. 26 Comments

Drunken Goods promises to make all of your 2 a.m. dreams come true. That oh-so-satisfying bite of comfort food at 2 a.m. is arguably the best part of any given weekend night out. However, in the chillier months of fall or winter, this staple weekend experience is often hampered by a cold wind that circles […]

Yvette Elliot, co-founder of Klekolo World Coffee, tells The Argus about the history of her business and her passion for quality coffee.I’ve always valued coffee not only for caffeine, but also for its capacity for flavor. Since coming to Wesleyan, however, I’ve noticed that finding a quality roast is a persistent struggle. During much of […]

Open Letter to President Roth

by Martin Benjamin, . 3 Comments

Dear Michael, I hasten to stand aside for Wesleyan’s geared-up walking sandwich board of “a gauche” clichés.  Of thee I sing; you’re off to the races: “All around the country people are speaking out against the outrageous injustices that people of color face on a regular basis…. (There’s) the police brutality and systemic racism that […]

The recent New York City sugary-drink ban has elicited controversy within the city limits and beyond. These locations exclude grocery stores and convenience stores. Bloomberg lost […]

Foodstagramming for a Job

by Erica DeMichiel, Contributing Writer. Leave a Comment

I confess: I’m a food worshipper. I am eternally planning that next meal: what I’ll eat, where I’ll eat it, and which adventurous person I’ll have in tow as I satisfy my perpetual craving for new and unusual chow. Often to the dismay of my companions (and detriment of my wallet), my stomach leads me away […]

Chalk is Talk: Is Wesleyan’s Chalking Ban Illegal?

by Eric Stephen, Assistant Editor-in-Chief, Emeritus. 9 Comments

While both Presidents Bennet (1995-2007) and Michael Roth (2007-) have provided justifications for the ban on chalking, both arguments appear to be predicated on the notion that, because Wesleyan is a private institution, the University has no responsibility to state or federal protections of freedom of speech. However, state law suggests that this story is not so simple.
