Cardinals win in OT

Under sloppy conditions on Anderson Field this past Saturday, the Cardinal field hockey squad knocked off a strong Colby team 1-0 in overtime. Despite playing a strong offensive game, launching twenty shots, it was a Molly Adams ’07 goal that proved the difference in this contest.

In the offensive flurry, Courtney Tetrault ’07 fired eight shots while Adams added five throughout the game. Tetrault also provided an assist on Adams’s goal. But Colby’s defense was strong, especially goalie Jamie Enos who made sixteen saves throughout the game.

But if Colby’s defense was strong, the Cardinal’s defense was impenetrable. Colby was unable to launch a single shot at the Cardinal net, giving goalie Caitlin Kelly ’07 an easy day in the net.

Adams’s goal was her team-leading sixth of the year, following up her selection as last week’s “NESCAC Player of the Week.” After the victory, Wesleyan improved 8-3 all-time against the Mules. Currently, the team’s record stands at 5-2, with a 3-2 standing in NESCAC play, good for fifth place in the conference. In addition this season, Wesleyan is undefeated on the road, earning four of its victories away from Middletown.

The Cardinals next host Eastern Connecticut State University in a non-conference match up on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
