It was not a banner day for women’s tennis, as the team fell 9-0 to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY on Sunday. The only two Cardinals to capture sets were second seed Ania Preneta ’09 and Captain Susannah Ragab ’06. Both opened up with 6-4 first set wins before falling in the second and ultimately losing in tiebreakers. The doubles squad of Ragab and Elizabeth Collector ’09 came close to a win in their contest, but in the end came up a point short, 9-8.
The Cardinals had been riding high after two wins to open up the fall season, knocking off Hamilton and then Skidmore. But a pair of 9-0 losses, first to archrival Amherst College in Middletown last week and then to Vassar this past weekend, has the Wesleyan squad reeling. Still, the Lady Cards hope to get back to their winning ways and climb back above .500 in the ITA Tournament at Bowdoin this weekend.
