The Cardinal track teams enjoyed a successful weekend in the Wesleyan Invitational III, racking up a combined 13 top-five finishes in the 16-team meet. The strong showing comes on the heels of the Wesleyan Invitational II, in which Wesleyan amassed 18 top-three finishes in a field of eight teams.
Eleven of Wesleyan’s 13 top-five finishes on Saturday came on the track, including all five by the Cardinal men. The highest finishes on the afternoon belonged to Justin Spring ’10, who took second in the 1000-meter run (2:35.34), and Julia Frieze ’12, who did the same in the 600m (1:42.51). Wesleyan also received third-place efforts from Jack Pacelle ’13 (200m, :23.21), Charlie Lang ’11 (3000m, 8:51.84), Ceili Brennan ’13 (600m, 1:42.77), and Kathryn Kulowski ’11 (high jump, 4-9 1/2; triple jump, 31-11).
The prior Saturday, the Cardinals had a trio of first-place showings to their credit. Spring took first in the mile run with a time of 4:29.67 (with Lang placing second), and Ravenna Neville ’10 did the same in the 5000m (18:29.92). The Cardinal women also had the top three finishers in the weight throw in Ashley Swan ’13 (32-7 1/4), Lane Harris ’13 (30-6 1/4), and Kora Shin ’10 (28-1/4).
Wesleyan returns to this action on Friday with the Boston Indoor Games at Northeastern University.
