The men’s lacrosse team dropped nationally ranked Tufts in a 10-9 victory Wednesday to guarantee a Cardinal berth in the NESCAC tournament. Mike Vitulano ’06 led all Wesleyan scorers with three, and Mike Hines ’07 extended a 5-1 lead to 7-1 before the close of the first half with a pair of his own. If the team can extend their streak to five in a game against a weak Colby team this Saturday (0-8 NESCAC), the Cards would secure home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs.
At home is where the Cards want to begin their playoff run, but with the NESCAC tournament beginning the day after the Colby game, the team will be in for a long weekend, as they will have to travel to Maine and back over the course of two days and then show up fresh on Sunday to meet their opponent. Depending on what happens around the league, the Cards could end up seeded as high as fourth and see Williams, Tufts, Bates, or Conn. College in the first round. With the squad clicking on all cylinders, it’s time to set aside a case of beer and get ready to talk shit! The Cards are playing at home Sunday.
