The women’s tennis team fell to Trinity in its final home match of the season, dropping a narrow 5-4 decision. Wesleyan got a number of strong performances up and down the ladder, including dominating wins at No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles, but ultimately fell to 5-28-1 all-time against the Bantams.
Wesleyan trailed 2-1 after doubles play due to a pair of narrow losses. Anika Fischer ’10 and Sarah Miller ’12 dropped a close 8-6 decision at No. 1, and Genevieve Aniello ’13 and Linda McDougal ’11 fell 9-7 at No. 2. At No. 3, Casey Simchik ’10 and Taylor Morales ’13 earned a dominating 8-1 win.
Wesleyan got another big win from Simchik in singles play as she took a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6. Miller earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 as well, and at No. 5, McDougal took the first set 6-4 and was leading the second 1-0 when her opponent retired. Fischer (No. 1; 6-1, 3-6, 2-6) and Aniello (No. 3; 6-2, 6-7, 3-6) suffered three-set losses, and Meredith Holmes ’10 suffered a 6-0, 6-4 defeat at No. 4 as the Bantams took the match.
Wesleyan, which now stands 10-6 overall, ends regular-season play Sunday at Williams.
