Half-steppin’ (v.)- The act of attempting to show out*, but not following through.
Show Out (v.)- To go hard with one’s apparel, and attitude.
We’re tired of people half steppin’. Spring has arrived, the living is easy, and new clothes are on display. However, with great clothes, comes great responsibility…and that’s where we step in.
We’ve chosen to compile a short list of rules to follow for Spring ’09.
1. If you are going to show out, do it with conviction. The day you choose to parade around in high-heeled wedges, on a weekday & on the runway to Usdan, execute it with pride. Make sure your posture’s up, and your eyes aren’t to the ground. FOLLOW THROUGH. The outfit you chose was a bold move, so pair your attitude with what you are wearing.
2. For all those who’ve had a lazy winter, and have no plans of switching up their game for the spring, there is absolutely no shame in that. However, we MUST stress the following point: DO NOT, we repeat, DO NOT come at those who choose to step out in style and on point. The backhanded compliments or phrases like, “who you tryna impress?, or the old favorite, “what is this…a fashion show?, are OUT of season. They make the perpetrator look absurd and expose their insecurities about their outfit choice that day.
Try to maintain some level of consistency in apparel and attitude. Let’s be honest, people often remember you for your worst look of the week, so if choose to rock sweatpants from head-to-toe on Tuesday, while coming at someone who dressed on point, and then go hard on Wednesday in an outfit that closely resembles the one you came at the day before, you look ridiculous. No one said you have to go hard everyday, but the opposite extremes paired with an inconsistent attitude leave no room for sympathy from the onlookers.
In conclusion, you are what you wear, but there is more to it. Match your swag with your outfit choices in order to achieve the perfect balance. Consistency, confidence and the proper attitude are all essential in escaping the possibility of half-steppin’. In essence, Go Hard or Go Home.
