About two weeks ago I took the RIDE down to the bars. I got in behind the Pine Street office right at 11 p.m., when the drivers change shifts. The driver was handed keys and the RIDE cell phone and was overwhelmed with calls before he was able to buckle his seat belt. The driver was distracted and fumbling for the entire drive, even asking a student where they wanted to be picked up by speaking into the walkie-talkie instead of the phone. I’m sure this was not an isolated event.
There is NO reason why the RIDE driver should not have a hands-free headset. Many states have already recognized the dangers presented by distracted drivers by outlawing the use of cell phones while driving. The investment is minimal and the return is enormous.
I recommend that you consider and rectify this issue as soon as possible.
