Fall 2008 Male Team: Men’s Crew

Some might say that a team that competes in only three intercollegiate events in a season shouldn’t be considered for team of the season; however, the men’s crew team excelled in each regatta they entered, capping off the short fall season with a first place finish at the Head of the Fish Regatta on Oct. 26.

Putting forth such a tremendous effort, the men’s crew team has earned the title of Male Team of the fall. Representing first varsity eight this fall were coxswain Jennie Moyer ’11, Ross Heinemann ’09, Gael Hagan ’09, Charlie Weiss ’09, Elliott Skopin ’11, Terrence Word ’11, Ben Roberts ’09, Spencer Hattendorf ’12 and Gilder Keeler ’11.

The team started off the season on Oct. 11 at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta and finished third out of 16 teams. Following up this success, the team continued to roll, spending a weekend in Boston at the Head of the Charles Regatta and finishing sixth of 38 teams.

The season ended with the team taking the Head of the Fish in a dominating performance. The squad will hope to build on its fall success in the longer, more competitive spring season.
