Come share, support and be a part of Wesleyan University’s Take Back the Night 2008. Take Back the Night is an annual event at Wesleyan University and college campuses across the nation to raise awareness about the issues surrounding sexual violence.
This event—co-sponsored by the Adelphic Education Fund, the Student Budget Committee (SBC) of the Wesleyan Student Assembly (WSA) and WesWell—gives members of the Wesleyan community an opportunity to gather in support of survivors of sexual violence and provides an opportunity for survivors to share their stories in a safe space.
Take Back the Night 2008 is this Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m., starting on the steps of Olin Library. The event will commence with a rally and songs performed by various a capella groups. Following, there will be a march to several locations on campus and formations of speak-out circles, which will include stories from survivors and readings of any narrative submissions. The night will conclude with a candlelight vigil and snacks provided by different groups on campus.
Take Back the Night is dependent on the participation of the community at large. All members of the Wesleyan community are welcome to attend. This may be the first time that some of these stories are told and we ask that everyone respects the confidential nature of the event.
We take back the night to raise awareness about sexual assault on our campus and in our community. We take back the night to give voices to those who are silent. We take back the night in honor of survivors and in honor of their courage and strength. Come take back the night with us and be a part of a truly moving experience.
